In April, Mrs. Draiss’ third grade class at Tackan Elementary School began a poetry unit in honor of national poetry month. The students immersed themselves in poetry through both reading and writing. They studied different forms and topics of poetry and learned how poets carefully choose and arrange their words to create emotion and meaning. In May, the students went to Tackan’s nature mall to observe nature through their poet’s eye. They carefully examined the world around them by looking at nature through a different light as they wrote their own free verse nature poems.
