Thanks to a project done in a middle school technology class by her daughter, a physical therapist who works in Smithtown Elementary School is able to share the power of learning with her own students.

Before the closing of schools, students in Mr. Kelly’s technology class at Great Hollow Middle School are assigned a project to create and build a toy for a child with special needs. Avery Nasta built a puzzle that her mom, Kathleen, now uses with her elementary students. The puzzle Avery created allows students to complete it while they are on their hands and knees, building strength and postural endurance.

“I brought the toy to work with me,” said Ms. Nasta. “These students were able to use the toy, as intended, and it was an amazing thing to watch, knowing that it was made by students within the district as a project.”
