Statement from Dr. James Grossane

Superintendent of Smithtown School District

The Northport Police Department has made the district aware of the arrest of a High School West math teacher. The allegations of inappropriate conduct do not involve a district student nor did they take place on school grounds or through a district program. In addition, during this teacher’s 14 years working within the district there have been no incidents reported. The teacher has been placed on administrative leave, effective immediately and we will continue to assist in the police investigation, as needed.

In order to ensure there is no disruption to the academic process a math teacher will be placed in the classroom when school resumes on Tuesday. Please know that our students are our top priority and as such, additional support services will be made available.
