Thirty-nine students from the district recently participated in the DECA International Career Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. With more than 22,000 students from around the world competing in this year’s event, several Smithtown students were named national finalists and award winners. 

High School East’s Jonathan Golbert was a national finalist for his community service project. Jonathan wrote a 30-page manual and ran various events to raise money and awareness for Memorial Sloan Kettering in honor of his father. High School East’s Brian Feminella was awarded a $220,000 ROTC Scholarship. 

Sunitha Palat and Madison Plourde from High School West were national finalists for their 30-page sports and entertainment manual. They worked with Smithtown Landing Golf Course to develop a customer experience management strategy and prepared a detailed written strategic plan for the golf course.

Kenny Indovino, David Wallman and Ian Whitehead from High School West were national semifinalists for their 30-page learn and earn manual. They developed a business plan and implemented a promotional campaign to sell West Spirit accessories at various school events. Jonathan Pofcher, High School West was a national finalist in his principles of finance test, and Stefanie Lin of High School West was a medalist for her test, professional selling.
