During an in-school field trip, Sweetbriar Nature Center visited with first-graders in Kelly Collett's class at St. James Elementary School. Students learned about various animals that live on Long Island and their adaptations. They observed and touched many of the animals including a walking stick (stick bug), turtle, snake, owl and rabbit. The first-graders learned the differences between mammals, reptiles and insects, how animals camouflage themselves, and what they should do if they encounter these animals in nature.
