Vincent Hardina, a fourth-grader at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School, submitted one of 11 winning entries in this year’s Smithtown Youth Bureau’s letter writing contest.

Vincent’s letter was chosen among more than 400 submissions to the contest. He wrote a letter to thank local firefighters for the heroic work they do every day to protect the community. Hardina was recognized during the Town of Smithtown’s Global Youth Service Day on April 22, where he had the opportunity to read his letter to honored guests, firefighters, police officers and EMTs. Global Youth Service Day is a worldwide event of activism that empowers youth to take action in their world.
