Motivational speaker Mitch Shapiro presented a lecture on overcoming adversity and personal challenges to ninth- and 10th-grade students at High School West on April 4.
Shapiro, who is a Smithtown resident and founder of the Foundation for Sight and Sound, spoke to the students about the challenges he has faced in his life overcoming hearing loss and blindness. “Your future is in your hands,” he told the students. “Find something you are good at and do something you enjoy. There’s no wall that’s so high and so solid that you can’t get over it or through it.”
Shapiro challenged students to see past their obstacles – much like he has done in his life – so they can identify their journey to success.
