In an effort to promote literacy through reading, writing and thinking skills, Accompsett Middle School hosted “Cool to Read” week from Feb. 13-17.

Throughout the week, students participated in different literacy activities that showed the importance of reading everyday. Students created bookmarks and decorated bulletin boards around the school. Tying into Valentine’s Day, students and faculty created “conversational hearts” to display quotes they love from literature.

Always remembering those in need, Accompsett students conducted a book drive throughout the week to be donated to Reading Reflections. In the cafeteria, students were challenged each day to guess the name of the book based on the clues presented on the window. Each day, new clues on a new book were posted and a daily winner received a gift card to the school store. The week also featured a “stop, drop and read” during 15 minutes of class and concluded with Read a Shirt Day.
