Geo Bee Winner Lands on Top

Six finalists vied for the first-place title when Nesaquake Middle School held its Geography Bee on Jan. 25.

After successfully winning their team competition, Kiera Bowden, Kevin Hernandez-Urias, Philip Impastato, Abigail Reavis, Matthew Redlein and Matthew Zodda moved on the finals. After many intense rounds, Redlein prevailed and was crowned the Geography Bee champion.

Redlein will take part in an online qualifying competition to see if he will be among the 100 top-rated students in New York and become eligible to represent Nesaquake at the New York State Geography Bee on March 31.

If successful at the state level, Redlein will advance to National Geographic’s Geography Bee in Washington, D.C. The designated state champions attend the national championship round from May 15-17 and compete for a $50,000 scholarship.
