Hands-On Lessons in Native American Culture

Fourth-grade students at Tackan got a taste of Native American life in the early days thanks to an in-house field trip provided by Journeys Into American Indian Territory on Jan. 10. The lessons tied directly in with the fourth-grade curriculum on Eastern Woodlands.

Students learned about how Native Americans hunted and touched a few of the hunting instruments they used. Each class learned about the Native American culture, examined artifacts, and went inside a longhouse. The fourth-graders sat on animal skins and listened to Native American stories and even had time try out a few Native American games.
