High School East student Sam Cheng and High School East Advanced Placement art teacher Timothy Needles both had photographs chosen for inclusion in the 12th annual National Photography Competition at Foto Foto Gallery in Huntington.

Out of nearly 600 entries, 29 were chosen for this year's competition from around the U.S. The show was curated by art director Stephen Mayes, secretary of the World Press Photo Competition and executive director of the Tim Hetherington Trust. The exhibit will be on display through Jan. 7.

“Renowned editor and critic Stephen Mayes had the difficult task of choosing just 30 images from a field of 540 entries. The result of his thought provoking selection is an exhibition that is both varied and beautiful as well as a bit edgy,” said Foto Foto Gallery director Susan Dooley.
