Peer Role Models Make the Right Choices

Several eighth-graders from Accompsett Middle School participated in the initial training phase of the “I’m Somebody” program on Nov. 30.

The program is conducted by the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, Division of Community Mental Health Hygiene Services. This program reinforces positive decision-making skills for youth as it relates to the risks of drug and alcohol abuse as well as social media.

After the initial lesson with senior drug abuse educator Gail Feldman, Accompsett counselors will facilitate additional small group trainings in the upcoming months to prepare the students to deliver the information to the school’s sixth-graders.
