Art Honor Society students from High School East took part in a collaborative art project that not only gave them the opportunity to beautify their school, but also to work with a famous artist.

Jon Burgerman, an artist from the United Kingdom who is currently living in Brooklyn, visited the school on April 21 after making a connection with East art teacher Tim Needles.

Burgerman created two murals using his famous doodles, incorporating imagery from the community such as a Smithtown bull, and students worked together to paint the color based on his design. Funding for the mural was provided by a grant from Smithtown Children’s Foundation, student fundraising and School Improvement Team. The two completed murals will hang outside East’s cafeteria.
