Mechanical Bulls’ Successful Season

The district’s robotics club, the Mechanical Bulls, recently completed one of their most successful seasons.

At the Finger Lakes Regional at the Rochester Institute of Technology, the Bulls made it to the quarterfinals, finishing 12th out of 49 teams.

The team also made the quarterfinals at the Long Island Regional, hosted by Hofstra University. They finished eighth out of 51 teams and won the Excellence in Engineering award for their heat formed, lightweight, high-strength skid plate. The skid plate was designed to protect the electronics and prevent the robot from getting stuck on the obstacles.

HSE junior and robotics team officer Carley Rowe won the Dean’s List Finalist Award. She will attend the international championships in St. Louis, Missouri, where she will compete against other regional winners. Other honors for the Smithtown team went to Daniel Melcer, who was named a Dean’s List semifinalist, and Noah Fauchon, who took home a Long Island Regional MVP award.
