Native American Lessons at Dogwood

As an introduction to their study of Native Americans, fourth-grade students at Dogwood learned about different tribes and participated in hands-on activities during a visit with Native Americans from the Journeys into American Indian Territory program on March 29.

The classes gathered to listen to presenters tell Native American stories, examine artifacts at a museum station and experienced life in a longhouse. The students participated in traditional Native American games, were taught how to throw spears and worked with clay.

They also learned about the Great Peace Treaty and the Iroquois Confederacy.
