District Gets Nod for Best Music Community

The district has been designated as one of the Best Communities for Music Education in America by the NAMM Foundation. The national program has put the spotlight on Smithtown and 475 other school districts that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to music education.
Now in its 17th year, the BCME program singles out districts for outstanding effort by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders. This is the third year Smithtown has received the distinction. “We are very fortunate to have a strong music program that continues to thrive in Smithtown,” said Michael Mastrangelo, director of fine arts K-12. “Because of this, our community has once again been recognized by the NAMM Foundation."
The BCME program evaluates schools and districts based on funding, staffing of highly qualified teachers, commitment to standards and access to music instruction.
