Before the schools shut down, the fifth graders at Dogwood Elementary School were busy building their literacy skills in March. The students crafted two voice poems – creating a dialogue between two main characters and depicting their relationship – based on the book “Esperanza Rising.” Students also read “Malala’s Magic Pencil” as a class and wrote about her identity, personality and her efforts to become the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
