A Lifelong Love of Literacy

Instilling a lifelong love of reading is the main objective of the Book Club at Nesaquake Middle School. Run by English teacher Marissa LoSardo, the club works to promote a love of reading in their school community.

Using social media, the club shares many of the popular books they are reading with their school community. Students in the clubs do book reviews and conduct interviews with teachers and students who are “readers of the week,” sharing information about their current favorite title.

To show how reading can also be fun, they promote their favorite titles and use their club time to share why they love their current reading selections with members. The club meets twice a month on Monday mornings. Check out all their happenings on Instagram at @nesaquake_book_love. On their page, the club posts reading and book loving memes and reposts novels from authors or publishing companies to share titles of interesting books.

They create “questions of the month” for classmates to fill out and discuss about reading. There’s also a bulletin board in the cafeteria that is updated monthly to reflect different themes.
