Third graders in Ms. Velez and Ms. Paplin’s class at Dogwood Elementary School conducted a hands-on experiment in the laws of magnetism during a Project Lead the Way lesson. After learning about the cause and effects of magnets, the different poles and their push and pull properties, students had to hypothesize whether or not a number of different objects would stick to the magnets. Using clothespins, metal washers, corks, paperclips, students tested their theories of magnetic attraction and logged their results.
