District administrators and Board of Education members recognized the achievements of members of the student body during their meeting on Jan. 14.

Members of the High School East varsity basketball team, along with their coach and athletic director Pat Smith, presented certificates and offered words of gratitude to High School East Principal Dr. Kevin Simmons and interim Superintendent of Schools Russell Stewart who served as honorary assistant coaches during recent games.

Mr. Smith also recognized members of the district’s unified bowling team, who recently competed in a match. The students are paired with members of Athletes Helping Athletes and compete against local districts that participate in the program. Lastly, Mr. Smith recognized Michael Danzi, a cross-country and track runner, for his recent accomplishments, along with his coach Mr. Schieck.

High School West Principal John Coady honored four High School West graduates – Sophia Emma, Chloe Mango, Paige Diecidue and Rociel Raymundo– who were the driving force behind the district’s Wall of Heroes, which was unveiled at High School West in November. Mr. Coady honored teacher Joan Havranek and assistant principal Christopher Elsesser for their help in making the project a reality.
