ENL students from High School West spent the afternoon of Dec. 6 learning about holiday traditions in the U.S. and giving back to the local community. Gathered in the library and in conjunction with representatives from the Smithtown Public Library, the hands-on learning experience focused on holiday traditions among cultures such as the acts of giving and receiving and the traditions celebrated in different regions. The students had the opportunity to sign up for a library card and decorated ornaments and cards for children at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. Students made holiday signs, including a star for the Christmas tree in the West library with the 3D printer, and colored bookmarks for donation to the local senior citizen groups.
